I FINISHED THE LONDON MARATHON!!!

It’s official! I ran the marathon 8 days ago and I can genuinely say that it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Despite being told about the atmosphere on the day, nothing could have prepared me for the amazing crowds! I had my name written on my tshirt and everyone was cheering me on. It was such a boost anytime someone shouted your name. The only thing better was when I saw my amazing family and friend who came to support me. I didn’t stop smiling for the first 15 miles! That’s when it started getting tricky and I felt my legs getting heavy and tired. By mile 22 I don’t think I could even muster a small smile anymore as I felt as though my legs may fall off! Somehow, I pushed through and still managed a sprint finish which I was super chuffed with. I am very proud to say that I didn’t stop or walk for the whole 5 hours and 6 minutes. I then proceeded to head to the pub and get tipsy from one g&t!

I cannot express my gratitude enough for all of the wonderful and kind people who sponsored me. I managed to raise over £1500 (and counting) for the wonderful charity Let Them Help Themselves Out Of Poverty. They are helping women and girls in rural Uganda access and make their own menstrual hygeine products. The money I raised has gone towards new sewing machines, training and has allowed the charity to select 4 women from the village of Ruhanga to become memstrual hygeine ambassadors. These women will be attending a course in the capital city of Kampala that specialises in menstrual hygeine management. On their return, they will be training a further 15 girls from the village and will be receiving a salary from the charity for their effort.

So the long and short of it is, I LOVED the London marathon despite a black toenail and struggling with stairs for a few days afterwards. I loved it so much that I have just entered the ballot for next years 😅!!
